What Size Dumpster Do I Need for a Roof Tear-Off in Corpus Christi?

Roofing shingles are heavy and pile up fast. Here's a simple way to figure out whether a 15-yard or 20-yard dumpster fits your Corpus Christi roof tear-off — and how to stay inside the weight limit.

The short answer

For most single-layer residential roofs up to about 30 squares (3,000 sq ft), a 15-yard dumpster does the job. If your roof is larger, has multiple layers of old shingles, or a steep pitch that adds material, step up to a 20-yard or plan on a mid-job swap-out.

Why shingles are all about weight, not just volume

Roofing debris is deceptively heavy. A single square of asphalt shingles can weigh 250–400 lbs, and older roofs often hide two or three layers. That's why the weight allowance matters more than how full the container looks. Both of our sizes include a 2-ton (4,000 lb) allowance, which covers most single-family tear-offs — but a big or multi-layer roof can push past it.

Count your roof's squares (a 'square' is 100 sq ft). Multiply by the number of layers. As a rough guide: under 30 single-layer squares fits a 15-yard; 30–40 squares or two layers is safer in a 20-yard. When in doubt, tell us the roof size and layer count and we'll size it for you over the phone.

How to avoid overage surprises

The easiest way to stay inside the allowance is to let us know upfront how big the roof is. If it's borderline, we'll either recommend the 20-yard or set up a swap-out so you're never stuck with a full container and half a roof left.
